A number of representatives were invited for a lunch-time session at UNEP’s North America offices where a presentation of the main GEO-6 findings was given. The group appreciated the findings on the need for systemic approaches to achieve transformational change. The group debated whether this was feasible in the current context and what type of approaches would be needed to change the current dynamic.

A large group of USEPA officers joined a briefing on the findings of the sixth Global Environment Outlook. USEPA contributed significantly to the Air chapters of the assessment and also to the Outlooks chapters. UNEP’s North America office organized a meeting with the UN Foundation to review the main findings of the sixth Global Environment Outlook. The UN Foundation is interested in furthering the messages from the GEO-6 on the environmental and health impact of food systems. UNEP will follow up to ensure there is good coordination on this key issue.

UNEP’s North America regional office organized a presentation to various U.N. entities and other international organizations at their weekly coordination meeting. A meeting was held with the Directorate General for Research and Innovation. There was a recognition on the importance of the GEO-6 findings for their work and it was agreed that collaboration with UNEP should continue to ensure alignment in particular to the transformations of energy, food and waste systems which were covered in the sixth edition of the Global Environment Outlook.

A meeting was held with the research service for the European Parliament in Brussels on 23 September 2019. The link between the functions of the research service and the findings in the GEO-6 was discussed. There seems to be a number of findings in the GEO-6 which could be useful for the research service's work in the future.
