Foster multi-country cooperation and to enhance institutional capacity for the protection and sustainable management of the transboundary Senegalo-Mauritanian aquifer system and its dependent ecosystems in order to improve water and food security, and resilience to climate change.

GEF-10677 Ongoing Biodiversity

i) Provide technical support for developing ABS policy, legal, institutional and regulatory frameworks for The Gambia; (ii) Undertake to pilot of administrative or policy measures to implement community protocols, bioprospecting, and/or biotechnology research; and (iii) Promote ABS-compliant management of protected areas that support improvements in the conditions of biological and genetic resources for the Nyambai Forest Complex.

GEF-10941 Ongoing Biodiversity

To fast-track readiness and early actions to implement the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework by providing financial and technical support to GEF-eligible Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in their work to review and align their national targets, NBSAPs, policy frameworks, monitoring frameworks and finance with the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Ecosystem services in productive and protected land/seascapes conserved by improved land use and marine spatial planning policies and land/seascape level management in Gambia.

To provide financial and technical support to GEF-eligible Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity CBD in their work to develop high quality, data driven sixth national reports (6NR) that will improve national decision-making processes for the implementation of NBSAPs; that report on progress towards achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets ABTs and inform both the fifth Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO5) and the Global Biodiversity Strategy of 2021 - 2030.

To enable the countries of the Canary Current Large Marine Ecosystem to address priority transboundary concerns on declining fisheries, associated biodiversity and water quality through governance reforms, investments and management programs. The long-term environmental goal of the CCLME program is to reverse the degradation of the Canary Current Large Marine Ecosystem caused by over-fishing, habitat modification and changes in water quality by adoption of an ecosystem-based management approach.

This review should be read along with earlier review which preceded this review sheet).The objective of the project is the conservation and sustainable use of the international watershed and biodiversity of the Fouta Djallon highlands. The project will build on the experiences of the Fouta Djallon Programme coordinated by ICO-OAU which was aimed at promoting holistic approaches to integrated ecosystem management-based participatory and community-based strategies.
