Working hand-in-hand to tackle the world’s most pressing environmental problems.

UN Environment has been working hand-in-hand with the Global Environment Facility to tackle the world’s most pressing environmental problems since 1992. Together we have implemented over 900 projects, inspiring, informing, and enabling the public and policymakers across more than 160 countries to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

As the peak environmental body of the United Nations, UN Environment plays a leading role in the international environmental governance system and currently hosts 11 Multilateral Environmental Agreements  (including three for which the GEF is the financial mechanism) and six Regional Seas Conventions.
