To promote water security through strengthening transboundary water governance, sustainable development, balancing multiple-use and promoting integrated management of the Pantanal-Upper Paraguay River Basin for the social and economic well-being of the population and for the conservation of the freshwater ecosystem, its services, its biodiversity and connectivity.

To support the development of national fuel economy policies in 20 countries, 6 countries through GEF-5 STAR Allocations and 14 without GEF funding, using existing tools developed with GEF-4 support (examples are the fuel economy baseline calculation methodology and online GFEI toolkit). In addition, to support coordination of the 20 country projects at the regional level to ensure that results are disseminated to other countries within the region. This will result in reduced vehicle fleet CO2 emissions in these 20 countries inline with the Global Fuel Economy Initiative's target of a 50% improvement of the overall global fleet fuel economy by 2050.

To assist the Government of Brazil to strengthen its technical capacity in supporting the implementation of its mitigation actions for greenhouse gas emissions in key economic sectors (industry, energy, industry, transportation, household and services, LULUCF and other cross-sector alternatives) in Brazil (including costs) as identified in the Brazilian National Policy and Plan on Climate Change.

To strengthen the conservation and sustainable management of agricultural biodiversity through mainstreaming into national and global nutrition, food and livelihood security strategies and programmes.

To ensure data-driven policy design and implementation by facilitating and mainstreaming biodiversity information into decision-making and policy development processes

The development objective is to contribute to the effective protection and sustainable use of the water and land resources of the Amazon Basin, based upon the principles of integrated water resources management (IWRM), and manage the effects of climate change (CC) within Amazonian communities in a coordinated and coherent way. This will be accomplished by the eight signatory countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty, within the framework of the ACTO, through a program of strategic interventions. Project’s specific objective is to elaborate a Strategic Action Program (SAP) for the Amazon Basin and create the necessary enabling social-economic environment for the future implementation of the SAP, inclusive of strategic measures relating to adaptation by the countries to the effects of global climate change on the Basin.

The development goal of the project is to conserve, sustainably use and manage pollinators. The project has three principal objectives. The project will (1) develop and implement tools, methodologies, strategies and best management practices for pollinator conservation and sustainable use. (2) build local, national, regional and global capacities to enable the design, planning and implementation of interventions to mitigate pollinator population declines, and establish sustainable pollinator management practices, and (3) promote the co-ordination and integration of activities related to the conservation and sustainable use of pollinators at the international level to enhance global synergies.

Strengthen the national transparency system in Brazil (DataClima+) for informing national policymaking and meeting the requirements of the enhanced transparency framework (ETF) under the Paris Agreement.

Building on national and GEF previous work, the objective of the proposed MSP is to promote an integrated approach to the planning and management of the São Francisco River, its coastal zone, and its river basin, as well as to implement strategic remedial actions to protect the marine environment from land-based sources of pollution, and integrating ecological management and economic development activities, based upon the comprehensive coastal studies to be undertaken in the context of this proposed MSP.
