UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon speaks at the closing session of UNEA.

Friday, 27 June - the final day of the first UN Environment Assembly - included a Ministerial Plenary on SDGs and Post-2015 Development Agenda including Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP). During this high-level session, participants discussed the ongoing Post-2015 and SDG processes, which are moving rapidly towards their conclusion in 2015. Ministers of Environment and Major Groups representatives shared success stories of environmental protection and economic growth, and stressed that an urgent shift to sustainable consumption and production patterns is needed.

 

A press conference was held with the participation of UN Under-Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner and a representative of the Major Groups. Events also included a luncheon hosted by the Group of 77 and China. H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon attended UNEA's closing session.
