IETC is recruiting an experienced copy-editor as an Individual Contractor to proof-read and copy-edit IETC’s new report. The duration of the contract is 2 weeks with 4 working days, and the contract is expected to start around late March or early April 2020 (subject to the administration process).

Mr. Onogawa, a director of The IGES Centre Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies (CCET) visited UNEP IETC. Having a productive meeting with IETC staff, we are determined to amplify our work to influence governments on the waste sector on a wider scale.

The Ministry of the Environment Japan (MoEJ), organised the Workshop on Synergies in Mercury Waste Management in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Minamata Convention on Mercury and the International Environmental Technology Centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP IETC) on 30th and 31st May 2019 in Osaka, Japan.

IETC convened a Global Dialogue with the Private Sector: Technology Solutions for Holistic Waste Management, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment Japan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan, Osaka City and the Global Environment Centre Foundation, 21-23 May 2019. 

The GWMO is the first of a series of Outlooks. The publication provides a general overview of the state of Waste Management globally and it is being complemented by regional and thematic Waste Management Outlooks for Asia, Central Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Mountain Regions and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The Regional Outlooks allow for deeper analyses and propose recommendations better tailored to each region. 

Mountain regions affect the whole world. Their vitality is essential for downstream food security, as freshwater from mountain regions feeds agriculture. They are also sources of drinking water, and sites of production for renewable energy such as hydropower, solar, wind, and biogas. Mountain litter is a problem because it reduces the intrinsic value of nature, degrades the environment and pollutes landscapes downstream.
