A Guide to Assessing Coral Reef Resilience for Decision Support

This Guide supports environmental managers assess, map and monitor coral reef resilience, based on which management actions that support resilience in the face of climate change can be identified and prioritized. An overview is provided of resilience and vulnerability concepts as well as pathways from resilience theory to practical application. Guidance on defining the decision-making contexts where resilience assessments can be used is provided, including articulation of objectives, scope and intended outcomes of resilience assessments.

A 10-step Guide is presented for using resilience assessment process to inform planning or management decisions, drawing on practical experiences in applying resilience concepts to coral reef management, and highlighting technical and process considerations for successful delivery.
