Spanish delegation arrives in Nairobi for bilateral consultations

13-14 December 2016 – The Spanish Delegation from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Fish, Food, and Environment and the Agency for International Development Cooperation meet with UN Environment at the organisation’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. Discussions with four of the seven sub-programmes – Resource Efficiency, Environmental Governance, Chemicals and Waste and Disasters and Conflicts, as well as the Communications Division and Policy and Strategy Division were held. An update of the Programme of Work and its outcomes were provided to Spain, which was keen to explore possible areas for closer collaboration. . The status of the Trust Fund that contributed USD 31 million in earmarked funding to UN Environment for the period 2007 to 2016 was also updated.

UN Environment thanked Spain for its support to the organisation and its projects such as Regional Gateway for Technology Transfer and Climate Change (REGATTA), LifeWeb Initiative, Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP) and the Poverty Environment Initiative, among others. It also welcomed Spain’s offer to promote UN Environment campaigns, engage with the private sector and provide technical capacity especially in geographic priorities where Spain already has programmes including Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and the Philippines.
