New two minutes on oceans with Jim Toomey video launched

On June 8 2018, to celebrate World Ocean’s Day UN Environment premiered the newest installment in the Two Minutes on Oceans with Jim Toomey video series, focusing on the land-ocean connection. This new video demonstrates that, no matter how far inland we live, our choices have an impact on the ocean.

UN Environment has partnered with internationally acclaimed cartoonist, Jim Toomey – of Sherman’s Lagoon fame – in the production of entertaining two-minute videos intended to raise awareness of the importance of oceans and the coastal environment.

The nine-part video series uses animation and humor to explain in clear and simple language, the complex role that oceans play in climate change and human and ecosystem health and highlights critical science and policy issues that must be addressed globally.

Jim Toomey is a renowned animator who has been writing and drawing the daily comic strip, Sherman's Lagoon, for over 25 years. The strip is syndicated to over 250 newspapers throughout North America and appears in more than 30 countries around the world. Sherman's Lagoon combines Toomey's two life-long passions - art and the sea. In addition to producing his comic strip, he is a passionate ocean advocate and focuses his work on marine conservation.

Other videos in the series include: Blue Carbon; Marine Litter; The Climate Change Connection; The True Value of Our Oceans; Nutrient Runoff; Adaptation to Sea Level Rise; Wastewater: A Widespread Threat and Missed Resource; and Green Fins for a Blue Planet.
