#FridayFact: Being near a forest helps keep stress at bay!

Are you preparing for end of term exams? Research shows that being near a forest can help you avoid stress!

'Significant' correlation exists between amygdala - the neurons in our brain that help process fear and anxiety - and living near a forest, German researchers have found*.

The study, led by Berlin’s Max Planck Institute for Human Development, follows previous research suggesting that being close to nature is good for our mental health.

Such findings can open a green window on urban planning, with 70% of the world's population expected to live in cities by 2050.

Connecting with nature was the theme to the 2017 edition of World Environment Day, which is held on 5 June each year. National parks were open for free across Europe, while countries pledged to increase protected areas.
