#FridayFact: Looking for a New Year’s resolution? Check if your home ‘breathes’!

Did you know that indoor air pollution is a major concern for the pan-European region?  Depending where in the region you live, people can spend over 85 per cent of their time indoors, this is important because around 100 000 premature deaths were attributable to household air pollution in the pan-European region in 2012[1].

Normal household items - such as wood stoves, printers, paint, cleaning products, pet hair and carpets - can surprisingly have large impacts on your health.

This can change. Having houseplants[2], improving the ventilation in your house, installing air filtration devices and buying environmentally friendly paints and cleaning products are a number of simple steps that you can take to improve air quality in your home.

Indoor air pollution is just one of the health threats highlighted by the sixth Global Environment Outlook report for the pan-European region. If this interests you, find out more on p.73 and 74.

Share our #FridayFact to family, friends and colleagues to spread the word about indoor air pollution and health.
