Shunichi Honda

Biography

Shunichi Honda joined the International Environmental Technology Centre in May 2015. Prior joining UNEP, Shunichi was a senior officer in the Ministry of the Environment, Japan. Shunichi’s contributions to the international programmes on waste management include: significant contributions to the Compliance Committee for the implementation of the Basel Convention; contributions to the Expert Working Group on the Environmentally Sound Management,   Asia E-waste projects implemented under Basel; Asia Network for prevention of illegal transboundary movements of hazardous waste, etc. 

He drafted the Basel Convention Technical Guidelines for the Environmentally Sound Management of Mercury Wastes. Shunichi is recognised as one of the key negotiators for the Article 11 (mercury wastes) of the Minamata Convention during its negotiations. 

He holds a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Shizuoka, Japan, and he completed a postdoctoral course in Tsinghua University, P.R.China.
