Climate change adaptation and mitigation

In Disasters & conflicts

Goal: Ensure that (i) ecosystem-based adaptation measures are integrated into disaster risk reduction measures, value chains and protected areas development; and (ii) low-carbon development pathways are promoted for energy production and Grand Sud economic growth.

Climate change adaptation and mitigation is integrated into all aspects of UNEP’s programming and capacity building for government partners. For example, an ecosystems-based approach to value chain development considers appropriate species and cultivation measures that take into account the actual and predicted changing climatic conditions, such as the needs for resistance to drought, limited water supplies and soil conservation techniques. In terms of mitigation, UNEP is supporting access to improved technologies for local industries in key value chains, carbon-reducing soil management techniques and renewable, sustainable sources of energy.
