Stakeholder Consultation on Securing Sustainable Conditions for the Monitoring of POPs under the Stockholm Convention

The discussion and elaboration at the stakeholder consultation in Brisbane focused on a scoping activity for a future monitoring project, which supports the Stockholm Convention in fulfilling its mandate on Global POPs Monitoring (GMP), while contributing to the broader Convention objectives. The participants representing key stakeholders were involved in careful consideration of technical as well as political and financing aspects through focused group discussions to define a sound basis for the project and identify critical elements where assistance is needed, based on facts and lessons learnt. The meeting also helped achieving long term sustainability, including minimum capacity needs and a better linkage of the POPs monitoring data and related activities of national interests.
