The overall goal of the workshop is to advance the international understanding, commitment and action towards the sound management and recycling of used lead acid batteries in view of protecting human health and the environment in Africa.

The specific objectives of the Workshop include the following:

Raising awareness on environmental and health impact of improper recycling of used lead-acid batteries (ULAB);
Exchanging information on the baseline on ULAB recycling including the size of the market and international trade, challenges faced by African countries un ULAB recycling, and existing policies and regulations;
Strengthening the knowledge on technologies and tools for sound recycling of ULAB
Discussing regional, sub-regional, and national strategies for sound ULAB recycling in Africa.
