On 21 March 2018, about 15 representatives of Major Groups and Stakeholders were invited by the UN Environment Programme to come to Nairobi to discuss the follow up to the 2017 Assembly and to give early input into the 2019 session. They discussed how to follow up on the outcomes of the third UN Environment Assembly on the theme of pollution and how to prepare for the fourth UN Environment Assembly.

The consultation took place back to back to the Joint Preparatory Retreat of the Bureaux of the UN Environment Assembly and of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, which allowed for a joint meeting in the morning of 22 March between Major Groups and the Bureaux. This provided a unique opportunity  to present the outcomes of the consultation and to engage in a constructive discussion with Member States.
