The Private Sector at the UN Environment Assembly

The UN Environment Assembly is the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment. It addresses the critical environmental challenges facing the world today. Understanding these challenges and preserving and rehabilitating our environment is at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Environment Assembly meets biennially to set priorities for global environmental policies and develop international environmental law. Through its resolutions and calls to action, the Assembly provides leadership and catalyses intergovernmental action on the environment. Decision-making requires broad participation, which is why the Assembly provides an opportunity for all peoples, including civil society and the private sector, to help design solutions for our planet’s health. In the fourth session of the UN Environment Assembly that took place from 11 to 15 March 2019, around 500 private sector participants were registered.

The Sustainable Innovation Expo is UN Environment’s premier solutions-oriented platform and the Assembly’s solutions-oriented platform for engaging the private sector through exhibits showcasing innovation and technology, panel discussions, pop-up chats and networking opportunities. Innovative sustainable business represents a trillion-dollar opportunity to be seized by organizations and companies that can bring value to people and the environment. The Sustainable Innovation Expo works to find solutions for today’s problems by embracing a forward-thinking culture that fosters ingenuity.
