Three Ministers of Foreign Affairs visited PAP/RAC

A ministerial delegation headed by H.E. Mr. Davor Ivo Stier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, H.E. Mr. Ditmir Bushati, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, and H.E. Mr. Mr. Srđan Darmanović, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, visited the premises of the Priority Action Programme Regional Activity Centre of the UN Environment/MAP on 10 February 2017 in Split.

The delegation was attending the launch of the Adriatic Trilateral Initiative among Croatia, Albania and Montenegro, that aims to contribute to the stability and security of this part of the Adriatic and Europe, and to intensify the dialogue on issues of common interest for the three countries, including environment. Ministers seized the opportunity to visit the centre which has been successfully cooperating with all three countries in environmental protection and sustainable development of the Adriatic region.

Ms. Željka Škaricic, PAP/RAC Director, welcomed the delegation and underlined the long and fruitful cooperation with all three countries. She presented a general overview of the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols as well as of the Mediterranean Action Plan system. She then briefed the visitors on the PAP/RAC specific objectives and its main fields of action, with particular focus on the role of PAP/RAC in assisting the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention, including Albania, Croatia and Montenegro, in implementing the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Protocol. She highlighted two examples of PAP/RAC’s cooperation with Croatian authorities and institutions, and Ms. Marina Markovic, PAP/RAC Programme Officer, presented two Coastal Zone Management Projects implemented in Albania and Montenegro.
