Forward-looking UN Environment initiative on food security honoured with Future Policy Award

  • UN Environment’s TEEBAgriFood initiative has been recognized with a 2018 Future Policy Award.
  • The initiative helps decision-makers to compare policies and markets to value food more accurately.
  • World Food Day is celebrated each year on 16 October.

Nairobi, 16 October 2018 – As communities around the globe mark World Food Day, the 2018 Future Policy Award has recognized UN Environment for their comprehensive evaluation framework for food systems that helps decision-makers get a better understanding of the impacts and external factors influencing agriculture and food value chains.

The Future Policy Award 2018 awarded “The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity” AgriFood Initiative (TEEBAgriFood)” with an award in their Vision category, for their work in capturing the complex reality of today’s diverse and intertwined food value chains, transforming agriculture and food systems around the world.

“By scaling up agro-ecology, it is possible to tackle malnutrition, social injustice, climate change, and loss of biodiversity,” said Alexandra Wandel, Director of the World Future Council. “Through effective, holistic policymaking, we can transform our food systems so that they respect people and planet.

The Future Policy Award are co-organised by the World Future Council, the Food and Agriculture Organization and Organics International, with the support of Green Cross International, Dutch Organic International Trade, Sekem Group, Egypt and EcorNaturaSi, Italy.\
