Special Programme Executive Board

The Executive Board is the decision making body and oversees the Special Programme with the support of the secretariat of the Special Programme which is hosted within UN Environment's Chemicals and Health Branch in DTIE and became operational in September 2015. What is the special programme?

The Special Programme range of funded activities include:

  • Identifying national institutional capacity weaknesses, gaps and needs
  • Strengthening institutional capacity to plan, develop, undertake and monitor policies, strategies and national programmes
  • Strengthening institutional capacity to improve progress reporting
  • Promoting an enabling environment to foster the ratification of the MEAs
  • Enabling the design and operation of dedicated institutional structures
  • Funding sound management of chemicals and waste projects

The Special Programme is maintained by the generous voluntary contributions of donor countries.
