Five environmentally aware events to have on your radar

Are you looking for opportunities to brainstorm concepts and think about how to tackle environmental challenges differently in 2019?

Applications for the Young Champions of the Earth Prize 2019 are now open. Seven winners aged 18-30 from around the globe will win seed funding and skilled mentoring for their groundbreaking ideas to create positive environmental impact.

In the meantime, why not explore these events and festivals for 2019, which aim to inspire environmental action and positive opportunities to network?

  1. GreenPop Eden Festival of Action

The annual GreenPop Eden Festival of Action which takes place in June and July, provides a common platform for young people to network, share ideas, pick up some lessons and channel their energy into productive uses. The festival presents the opportunity for participants to take part in environmental workshops, connect with other like-minded individuals and reconnect with nature in South Africa’s most famous Garden Route. You will partake in many environmentally friendly activities and enjoy live music in a green and serene environment.

  1. Thought For Food

Thought For Food is a non-profit organization which empowers young people worldwide with the relevant skills to ensure global food security towards a more sustainable environment. Through various transformative initiatives such as the Thought For Food Challenge, the Thought For Food Academy, the Thought For Food Summit and the Thought For Food Startup Bootcamp, you will benefit from high-level expertise and support to tackle environmental challenges. You will build upon existing ideas and generate further brilliant concepts to reshape the current global food system.

  1. We Love Green

Are you passionate about changing the world through music? We Love Green is an annual Paris musical festival that promotes emerging ideas centred around resolving environmental issues as well as raising awareness of the biggest ecological issues, to better understand the evolving world. The festival is conscious about advancing the idea of protecting the planet as reflected in the eco-friendly festival grounds and the carefully selected lineup of musical performances.

  1. Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza is a travelling musical festival which takes place in seven countries each year: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Sweden and the United States. Witness performances from various artists across a wide range of musical genres. Aside from experiencing great music and local food, party-goers are rewarded for recycling as part of Lollapalooza’s Rock and Recycle Programme. Recycle bins are distributed all over the festival grounds, and there is a free bike parking area and water stations to refill reusable water bottles.

  1. Glastonbury Festival

The long running Glastonbury Festival returns this year after taking a break in 2018. Having partnered with Oxfam, WaterAid and GreenPeace, the 2019 festival promises to highlight and promote contemporary green policies against a musical backdrop. Connect with peers who are creating tremendous impact in the world today.
