Nominations are now open for the 7th Cycle of Zayed International Prize for the Environment

The Zayed International Prize for the Environment (Zayed Prize) is the world's most valuable environmental award, worth US$1 million. It was established in 1999 by H.H. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, in recognition of the philosophy, vision and achievements of former President, late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Mercy be upon him, who worked tirelessly to preserve and protect the environment for future generations of his country, the region and in support of global initiatives such as the Agenda 21, the Millennium Development Goals, the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation for Sustainable Development, outcomes of Rio+20 & Sustainable Development Goals.

Awarded on a biennial basis, Zayed Prize is divided into Four Award Categories

 Global leadership in Environment and Sustainable DevelopmentUS $ 500,000

IIScientific/ Technological achievements in EnvironmentUS $ 250,000

IIIEnvironmental action leading to positive change in societyUS $ 200,000

IVYoung Scientists Award for Environment & Sustainable Development (new category)US $ 50,000

First Three Award categories are open to individuals, organizations and partnerships or projects. Fourth Award category is solely for young scientists with a minimum educational qualification of master’s degree and under the age of 40 (at the closing date of the application).

Each prize winner will receive the award (shared equally in case of more than one winner from each category), a Trophy and a Zayed Prize Diploma at a special award ceremony held in Dubai, UAE, at the end of each cycle. Nominations should be made using the On-line Nomination Form available at www.zayedprize.org.ae , where Selection Criteria, Eligibility Requirements and Nomination Procedures can also be found.

The deadline for the submission of nominations is 30 September 2015.
