Private sector engagement

United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6)

The sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) will take place from 26 February to 1 March, 2024 at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

The overall theme of UNEA-6 is effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.

Member States and stakeholders will come together at UNEA-6 to discuss how to advance the Decade of Action with a focus on addressing the interlinkages of the three planetary environmental crises. A series of leadership and multi-stakeholder dialogues and more than 30 official side events and associated events are expected to lay the grounds for strengthened future global and regional coordinated efforts by the United Nations, Member States and partners to deliver high-impact planetary action.

The private sector is critical to creating innovative and technological solutions, as well as providing resources to meet our global environmental challenges

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Our mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

The actions of governments and civil society alone are not enough for tackling our most pressing environmental challenges and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Business is an important partner to find the solutions to our global challenges and bring positive and sustainable action.
