The National Environmental Protection Agency of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has prepared this National Implementation Plan (NIP) in partial fulfilment of its obligations under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). The objective of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) is to protect human health and the environment from the effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

The Stockholm Convention sets out a range of control measures to reduce and, where feasible, eliminate Persistent Organic Pollutants releases, including emissions unintentionally produced. The Stockholm Convention also aims to ensure the sound management of stockpiles and waste consisting of or containing these pollutants.
