The UN Green Network NY & The UN Green Fair

The UN Green Network NY is a group of like-minded colleagues from different UN organisations and departments who decided to join efforts to help the UN “walk the talk” in terms of sustainability. The aim of this group of volunteers is to promote sustainable lifestyles among UN staff at UN headquarters in New York, to contribute to a mind shift that can help us reduce the environmental impacts of our daily choices and actions.

The main focus of the UN Green Network NY has been the celebration of the UN Green Fair, building on a UNICEF initiative. The UN Environment New York Office teamed up with the UNICEF Staff Association’s Greening Committee and with the UN Green Network NY to hold the first ever UN Green Fair at the UN Secretariat, on 2 June. Nearly 1,300 visitors attended the festive gathering marking World Environment Day, where more than 30 exhibitors showcased their products and initiatives to inspire UN staff and Permanent Mission representatives to switch to more sustainable personal and professional lifestyles. The following day, the UN Green Fair held its fourth edition at UNICEF headquarters, breaking their record with 555 visitors.

The Network is also exploring different initiatives and campaigns to improve sustainable practices at UN Headquarters.
