Russia Office

The key goal of the UNEP Russia Office is the development of policy dialogue with the Russian Federation authorities responsible for the elaboration and implementation of national and international environmental policy and legislation. The office also facilitates the dissemination of UNEP programmes and reports and assists the Russian Federation in developing and implementing projects, including under the framework of the Global Environment Facility, engaging with state, scientific and non-governmental organizations and businesses.

Cooperation with Russia is based on the Agreement on Cooperation between the Government of the Russian Federation and UNEP, signed in Nairobi on 16 April 2013. The priority areas for cooperation are aimed at helping achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, with green economy as a key mechanism for doing so.

Since Russia became a donor to UNEP in 2011, one of the Office’s key areas of work is to draw on the country’s expertise and help the country develop and carry out environmental conservation projects under Russia’s Official Development Assistance Programme.
