Biography

Rami Abdel Malik has over 16 years of experience in results-based programme development and management, advocacy, knowledge management, communications and strategic planning working with the UN and its specialized Agencies. Rami is currently Programme Coordinator and Special Assistant to the UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNEP Deputy Executive Director in the Executive Office. During his time in UNEP’s Law Division, he was responsible for the management of a global GEF-funded capacity building programme while serving as the divisional focal point for biodiversity-related MEAs. Prior to joining UNEP, Rami served as Communications Officer in the Executive Office of the UN Secretary General in New York, responsible for internal communications and competence training of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services. Previously, he worked as Project and Communications Specialist with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna on the development and implementation of chemicals and waste projects in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Rami has also held several positions with UNIDO and UNDP in the Sudan, where he worked on the development of a multi-stakeholder Livelihoods & Natural Resources Management knowledge platform and contributed to UN country-level development planning processes.

An Austrian national of Sudanese origin, Rami holds a B.A. in Diplomatic Studies from the International University, Vienna, Austria and a M.Sc. in Project Management from the University of Wales, United Kingdom.
