Ciudad de Panamá, Panamá 19 de septiembre de 2023 – Con motivo del Día Mundial del Ozono (16 de septiembre), el Concurso Regional de Arte para América Latina y el Caribe “El Planeta es Tu Lienzo” celebró su ceremonia de premiación el 13 de septiembre de 2023.
El evento, que tuvo lugar en el Museo de la Libertad, tuvo como objetivo celebrar la creatividad y el talento demostrado por los cerca de 400 participantes del concurso, representados en quienes obtuvieron los primeros lugares de cada categoría.
Paralelamente a la ceremonia, se diseñó una exposición “El planeta es tu lienzo” para resaltar los esfuerzos del Protocolo de Montreal y la Enmienda de Kigali para proteger la capa de ozono y prevenir el cambio climático. Todas las obras ganadoras se exhibieron junto con el arte desarrollado por dos miembros del jurado, Mariel Guzmán Martínez y Rommel Rosales.
El concurso de Arte Regional contó con cuatro categorías: ilustración digital, dibujo y pintura, fotografía y video. Los criterios de evaluación incluyeron originalidad, técnica, interpretación del tema y capacidad de transmitir un mensaje a través de sus obras. Los ganadores fueron Danna Paola Torrejón (México) por ilustración digital; Noelia Vinueza (Ecuador) por dibujo y pintura; Rodrigo Rico (México) por fotografía; y Alejandro de Jesús García Olivera (Cuba) por el vídeo.
La ceremonia de premiación fue organizada por AcciónOzono del PNUMA, en colaboración con la Unidad Nacional del Ozono de Panamá, dependiente del Ministerio de Salud (MINSA). La Maestra de Ceremonias fue Yanelit Ruiz de AcciónOzono.
Johnnie Hurst, Subdirector General de Salud Ambiental del MINSA expresó su agrado por realizar la ceremonia en Panamá. Destacó que este evento ayuda a generar conciencia sobre los esfuerzos globales para proteger la capa de ozono, que a su vez salvaguarda la salud humana, la biodiversidad y el clima de nuestro planeta. Por su parte, Marco Pinzón, Coordinador Regional del Protocolo de Montreal para América Latina, entregó un mensaje en nombre de Juan Bello, Director Regional del PNUMA para América Latina y el Caribe, y enfatizó la importancia del arte como medio para expresar nuestras preocupaciones, aspiraciones y esperanzas en un mundo que se enfrenta a desafíos sin precedentes como el cambio climático acelerado.
Asimismo, Anne-Marie Fenner, Oficial de Información de AcciónOzono, aplaudió las numerosas obras de arte que participaron en el concurso. Recordó a todos que a pesar de que el Protocolo de Montreal es uno de los acuerdos ambientales más exitosos de la historia, todavía queda trabajo por hacer hasta que el agujero en la capa de ozono se recupere por completo. Donnalyn Charles, Coordinadora Regional del Protocolo de Montreal para el Caribe, y Johnnie Hurst entregaron los certificados a todos los ganadores, incluidos los dos miembros del jurado.
Finalmente, el niño de 12 años premiado en la categoría video, Alejandro de Jesús García Olivera, de Cuba, afirmó que el concurso le ha ayudado mucho más en la investigación, en la profundización de sus conocimientos y hoy alza su voz al mundo para Proteger la Capa de Ozono.

Winners of Latin America and the Caribbean Ozone Layer Protection Art Contest Celebrated in Pamana
Panama City, Panama 19 September 2023 – On the occasion of World Ozone Day (16 September), the Regional Art Contest for Latin America and the Caribbean “The Planet is Your Canvas” held its award ceremony on 13 September 2023. The event, which took place at the Museum of Liberty (Museo de la Libertad), was a celebration of the creativity and talent displayed by nearly 400 participants. Alongside the ceremony, an exhibition “The Planet is Your Canvas” was designed to highlight the efforts of the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment in protecting the Ozone Layer and preventing Climate Change. All winning art was exhibited with the art developed by two jury members Mariel Guzman Martinez and Rommel Rosales.
The Regional Art contest had four categories: digital illustration, drawing and painting, photography, and video. The evaluation criteria included originality, technique, interpretation of theme, and the ability to convey a message through their works. The winners are Danna Paola Torrejón (Mexico) for digital illustration; Noelia Vinueza (Ecuador) for drawing and painting; Rodrigo Rico (Mexico) for photography; and Alejandro de Jesús García Olivera (Cuba) for video.
The award ceremony was organized by UNEP OzonAction, in collaboration with Panama’s National Ozone Unit under the Ministry of Health (MINSA). The Master of Ceremonies was Yanelit Ruiz from OzonAction.
Mr. Johnnie Hurst, Under-Director General of Environmental Health of MINSA expressed his pleasure at having the ceremony in Panama. He highlighted that this event helps to raise awareness about global efforts to protect the Ozone Layer, which in turn safeguards human health, biodiversity, and our planet’s climate.
Mr. Marco Pinzon, Montreal Protocol Regional Coordinator for Latin America delivered the message on behalf of Mr. Juan Bello, UNEP’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, and emphasized the significance of art as a medium to express our concerns, aspirations, and hopes in a world grappling with unprecedented challenges like accelerated climate change.
Ms. Anne-Maria Fenner, Information Manager, OzonAction, applauded the numerous art pieces that participated in the contest. She reminded everyone that despite the Montreal Protocol being one of history’s most successful environmental agreements, there is still work to be done until the hole in the ozone layer is fully recovered.
Ms. Donnalyn Charles, Montreal Protocol Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean, and Mr. Johnnie Hurst gave the certificates to all the winners including the two jury members.
Twelve-year-old award winner in the video category, Alejandro de Jesus Garcia Olivera from Cuba, stated that the contest has helped him much more in research, and deepening his knowledge and today he raises his voice to the world to Protect the Ozone Layer!
