Appointment of Mr. James Curlin as Head of OzonAction

Paris, 1 July 2021 ‒ Following the completion of a competitive recruitment process for the Head of OzonAction at the D-1 level, UNEP has appointed Mr. James (Jim) Curlin as Head of OzonAction. Jim’s career has progressively evolved since 1993 and has been centred on UNEP’s role as an Implementing Agency of the Montreal Protocol's Multilateral Fund. After first working for OzonAction as a consultant (1993-1995), he served as a P2 Associate Information Officer (1995-1996), P3 Information Officer (1996-2003), and then as P4 Information Officer (2003-2007) responsible for the information clearinghouse. Jim then worked as a P4 Programme Officer in charge of capacity building services (2007-2010) and served as the interim P5 Network and Policy Manager (2009-2010) while that post was vacant. He was later appointed P5 Senior Environmental Affairs Officer responsible for OzonAction's Regional Networks of Ozone Officers and policy issues (2010-2019). During that period, Jim also led OzonAction as Interim Head between 2011 and 2012. Since 1 April 2019, he has been the Acting Head of OzonAction Branch. Prior to joining UNEP, Jim worked on pollution prevention for an environmental consultancy in Washington, D.C. He also worked on hazardous waste issues for the National Governor’s Association, a public-sector policy organization. Jim is a national of the United States of America and has a B.A. in Political Science from the College of Charleston, South Carolina.
