Report

The purpose of this report, and of establishing a Minimum Level of Preparedness to Oil Spills in the NOWPAP Region in general, is to set forth key elements in essential preparedness and overall response capabilities, with the hope that identifying these elements will help mitigate the impacts of future oil spills in the NOWPAP region. It’s also expected that the methodology provided in this report will facilitate each NOWPAP member state to carry out assessments of their own preparedness and that of the whole NOWPAP region under one commonly accepted guideline.

Report

In order to review and analyze the existing Oil Spill Prediction Models (OSPMs) of NOWPAP Member states, information on the existing OSPMs were collected by national experts from the NOWPAP Members Expert Group. After collection of information, analysis and comparison of the OSPMs was carried out. The collected information and results of the review and analyses are summarized in this report.

Report

This regional report, based on National Reports, was put together in order to provide background information for further works on sea-based marine litter issues, and to provide general information on the situation regarding sea-based marine litter in the NOWPAP region.

Case study

This document provides several examples of marine litter management in Incheon, i.e., surveying, collecting and handling marine litter, and fundraising for those activities. Also included are public education and awareness-raising campaigns. The objective of this document is to share a successful example of marine litter management among the NOWPAP member states and with partners outside the region, and to help create a foundation for further co-operation amongst NOWPAP member states for marine litter management in the region.

Toolkits, manuals and guides

This report aims to give an overview of the international use of dispersants, as a basis for the development of NOWPAP Guidelines on Oil Spill Dispersants that can be used during joint response operations within the framework of the NOWPAP Regional Oil Spill Contingency Plan.

Toolkits, manuals and guides

This guideline has been developed to provide practical suggestions for the treatment or cleanup of oiled shorelines by expert groups, taking into account the reference materials and methods used in the NOWPAP region. In applying the information presented in these guidelines, it should be recognized that each spill is different, and a wide range of factors must be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Toolkits, manuals and guides

These guidelines were developed as a part of the NOWPAP Marine Litter Activity (MALITA) in order to provide effective tips on how to reduce marine litter, as well as to facilitate understanding of regulations on sea-based marine litter and practical principles of environmentally friendly behaviors.
