Approximately 70 participants from China, Japan, the Philippines, Spain, and Thailand attended the symposium. Professor Hwan Su Yoon from the Sungkyunkwan University of the Republic of Korea delivered a plenary lecture on "Unveiling the Origins and Adaptations of Photosynthetic Eukaryotes."

The symposium was composed of four sessions:

    Marine Species Diversity and Conservation

Role of Algae in the Ecosystem

    Functional Components from Island Resources

    Bioresource Technology for Sustainable Island

The researchers shared their findings on various topics, including taxonomic studies, DNA-assisted diversity assessments, species monitoring, blue carbon, identification of functional components of island natural resources, and machine learning techniques for predicting and classifying food characteristics in food processing.

The North Pacific Marine Science Organization (NOWPAP) also introduced its overview and its work on biodiversity conservation in the region.

The participants discussed translating scientific findings into policy recommendations and possible themes for future symposia. NOWPAP also highlighted funding opportunities for research and called for cooperation with researchers.

The symposium was a valuable opportunity for researchers from participating countries to share their work on biodiversity and natural resources. It also provided a forum to discuss protecting and conserving these resources for future generations.
