Climate Technology Center& Network (CTCN) Partnership and Liaison Office Launched in Incheon

The Climate Technology Center& Network (CTCN) Partnership and Liaison office was launched by the Ministry of Science and ICT of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Incheon Metropolitan Government,  and the United Nations Environment Programme in Songdo, Incheon, ROK, on 21 July 2022.

 

The Climate Technology Center& Network promotes the development and transfer of climate technology among countries. It will provide developing countries with the necessary technical assistance for climate technologies.

 

Around 100 participants from governmental agencies, embassies, and international organizations attended the launch ceremony in G-Tower in Songdo. Mr Jong-Ho Lee, Minister of Science and ICT of ROK, delivered a keynote speech. Ms Inger Andersen, UNEP Executive Director, sent a video remark congratulating the establishment of the Partnership and Liaison Office. The Mayor of Incheon City, Secretary to the Board of Green Climate Fund, Climate Change Ambassador of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a few other high-level officers delivered congratulatory remarks in the opening session.

 

An overview of CTCN and CTCN Partnership and Liaison Office and Korea's engagement with CTCN was introduced. A joint statement of the Korean Climate Technology Scale-up Steering Committee for future collaboration with the CTCN Partnership and Liaison Office was made in the meeting. World Bank, Korean Development Bank, and Global Green Growth Institute introduced climate technology support and financing partnerships at the meeting.

 

NOWPAP was invited to the event. NOWPAP has been working on several climate change-related issues, such as seagrass mapping and blue carbon. The Special Monitoring and Coastal Environmental Assessment Regional Activity Center (CEARAC) intends to research on impact brought by climate change on biodiversity in the region. It is critical to enhancing the cooperation with CNTC  and regional stakeholders to seek opportunities for cooperation.
