20th NOWPAP IGM held in Beijing

The 20th NOWPAP Intergovernmental Meeting (IGM) was held on 28-30 October 2015 in Beijing, China. The meeting was attended by representatives of the NOWPAP Member States (the People’s Republic of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation). Directors of the NOWPAP RACs, a representative of UNEP Headquarters and RCU staff members also attended the meeting. A representative of the North Pacific Science Organization (PICES) attended the meeting as a NOWPAP partner.

The meeting approved the report of the Executive Director of UNEP and the reports of four NOWPAP Regional Activity Centres on the progress for the implementation of NOWPAP activities during the 2014-2015 biennium. The meeting also approved the NOWPAP 2016-2017 Programme of Work including the NOWPAP Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter budget for 2016-2017. The meeting decided to prepare the draft NOWPAP Medium-term Strategy 2018-2023 and to revise the Terms of Reference for NOWPAP Regional Coordinating Unit in 2016.  In order to help POMRAC with smooth implementation of its projects, the meeting decided to assign to DINRAC the responsibility of operating financial transactions for two POMRAC activities in 2016-2017.

The 21st NOWPAP IGM will be held in the Republic of Korea late 2016.
