Sea-based pollution is responsible for 20% of all marine pollution, and is most often caused by ocean dumping or oil spills. This movie highlights some of the sea-based pollution problems throughout the world in regions such as the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean.
UN Environment's Regional Seas Programme, launched in 1974, support 143 countries to protect their marine resources and the millions of people who depend on them. One of the objectives of the Programme is to work for global environmental responsibility in regards to sea-based pollution. The Regional Seas and their participating countries protect the coastline and open water areas from industrial contamination, thereby safeguarding human health and environmental quality. The video describes some of the work being carried out by the Regional Seas Programme.
