The Contracting Parties of the Nairobi Convention have received Global Environment Facility (GEF) funding for the project Western Indian Ocean Large Marine Ecosystem Strategic Action Programme Policy Harmonization and Institutional Reforms (SAPPHIRE). The SAPPHIRE project is designed to promote ocean governance by supporting necessary policy and legal reforms, investments and capacity building requirements.
The SAPPHIRE project will be holding its first Project Steering Committee (PSC) from 25-27 June in Durban, South Africa. expected outputs will include approved Terms of References for the PSC and National Intersectoral Coordination Committees; Annual Work Plan 2019; and multi-year project budget. Additional anticipated outputs include a review of the project log frame and an agreement on accelerated project implementation.
