Ocean acidification—a process where excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere gets absorbed by the ocean—has severe consequences for marine resources and the livelihoods that depend on them. The Nairobi Convention, in collaboration with the IUCN-chaired Ocean Acidification International Reference User Group (OAiRUG) and the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) are organizing the Indian Ocean Regional Ocean Acidification Workshop in Zanzibar, Tanzania on 28- 29 October 2019. The main objectives of the workshop will be to

  1. take stock of current regional knowledge and actions on ocean acidification and
  2. develop a regional action plan detailing how the region will respond to this challenge.
