With its unique role as the peak environmental body of the United Nations, UN Environment leverages its convening power to drive environmental action from the global to the local level. UN Environment has played a leading role in developing, negotiating, and implementing a wide range of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and currently hosts 11 MEAs (including three for which the GEF is the financial mechanism) and six Regional Seas Conventions.
