Biographie

Bert Fabian has been the Coordinator of the Secretariat for the Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia (EANET) since June 2022. EANET is an intergovernmental initiative established in 2001 to create a common understanding on the state of acid deposition problems in East Asia, provide useful inputs for decision making at various levels, and promote cooperation among countries. UNEP has hosted the Secretariat of the EANET since 2015. In 2021, EANET expanded its scope to cover broader air pollution issues and established the EANET Project Fund to mobilize further resources and partnerships to address acid deposition and air pollution issues in the region.

Bert joined UNEP as a Programme Officer in 2013 in Nairobi, and led UNEP’s Sustainable Mobility Unit activities in Asia Pacific, supporting more than 15 countries in developing policies on transport, air pollution and climate change. He also coordinated the activities of the Global Fuel Economy Initiative and on Electric 2&3 Wheelers. In 2018, he moved to UNEP’s Asia Pacific office, where he also worked on air quality projects including strengthening air quality management communities of practice in Asia Pacific and understanding the relationships of COVID-19 and air quality.

Prior to joining UNEP, he was the Transport Program Manager of Clean Air Asia, a non-stock non-profit regional organization that promotes better air quality in cities. He has also worked for the Asian Development Bank on various transport and air quality projects. Bert has published and contributed to several books and studies on transport, air pollution and climate change, like the Urban Air Pollution in Asian Cities: Status, Challenges and Management (2006) and the Transport and Carbon Dioxide Emissions: Forecasts, Options Analysis, and Evaluation (2009). Bert has a master’s degree on Urban and Regional Planning major in Transportation, and a B.S. Biology degree from the University of the Philippines.
