The goals of the African Sustainable Transport Forum are to integrate sustainable transport into the region’s development and planning processes, and to increase the amount of funding going to sustainable transport in Africa.
The Forum held its first high-level conference in 2014. The event, which was hosted by the Government of Kenya, brought together representatives of 43 African countries, with 21 ministers of environment or transport in attendance. The outcome of this inaugural conference was a 13-point Action Framework that outlines a roadmap for achieving sustainable transport in Africa. Today, the Forum is supported by a Secretariat, which aids in the implementation of the Action Framework.
