Chemicals and waste: bringing about change in Argentina

Project Summary

The main objective of this project is to strengthen the Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste by generating installed capacity in the national environmental authority in order to promote the effective implementation of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements on chemicals and waste and the Strategic Approach for International Chemicals Management taking into account national needs and priorities and New Emerging Issues.

Project Objectives

The project will undertake the following measures:

  • Inter-sectorial communication and coordination mechanisms and a Monitoring and Evaluation system established involving Project partners and key stakeholders including the private sector and NGOs
  • Directorate of Chemicals and Waste established with installed capacity;
  • Participation and compliance of the activities proposed by the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and institutions within them evaluated and new cooperation opportunities driven;
  • National conditions and actions taken in preparation for the ratification of Minamata assessed;
  • Adequacy of existing legislation evaluated and complementary regulations and programs for waste management addressing new emerging issues developed in concordance of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management;
  • Monitoring, evaluation and financial audit plans executed and lessons learned compiled.
