The first Global Meeting of National Focal Points of the Montevideo Programme V (the Montevideo Programme V meeting) is being organized pursuant to resolution 4/20 of the UN Environment Assembly that adopted the Montevideo Programme. Participants will provide guidance to UNEP on relevant institutional and implementation arrangements for the programme, together with identifying needs and priorities in the field of environmental rule of law.

The Montevideo Programme V is an intergovernmental programmed designed to promote the development and implementation of environmental rule of law, stregthen the related capacity in countries, and contribute to the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda.

The Montevideo Programme V meeting will be held back-to-back with the 2nd World Congress on Environmental Law from 25-27 March 2020. National Focal Points to the Montevideo Programme have also been invited to participate in the World Congress Meeting and should therefore plan to be in Rio de Janeiro from 9 am Monday 23 March to 5 pm Friday 27 March 2020.

  • National focal points of the Montevideo Programme from developing countries and countries with economies in transition seeking financial assistance should contact United Nations Environment Programme as soon as possible by e-mail to Emma.Maungu[at]un.org not later than 21 February 2020.
  • National focal points of the Montevideo Programme and Stakeholders are required to confirm their participation by 6 March 2020 by email to Emma.Maungu[at]un.org with a copy to chege1[at]un.org 
  • National focal points of the Montevideo Programme who have confirmed attendance for the Montevideo Meeting will be registered directly by UNEP to attend the World Congress Meeting. All other participants should register here.
