The third Conference of the United Nations on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, also known as Habitat III was held in Quito, Ecuador from the 17th to the 20th of October, 2016 and is only held once every twenty years; previously being held in Vancouver, Canada (1976) and in Istanbul, Turkey (1996). The broad of Habitat III and the future of our cities has been compiled into a manifesto, called the New Urban Agenda (NUA), which was unanimously adopted at Habitat III. The NUA is truly ambitious and slightly radical in its rebuke of the state of most cities today, reflecting the willingness of the Habitat III generation to tear down the current assumptions around what living in a city should be like.
