The Pedestrian and Cycling agenda gets the air time it deserves at Habitat III

The third Conference of the United Nations on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, also known as Habitat III was held in Quito, Ecuador from the 17th to the 20th of October, 2016 and is only held once every twenty years; previously being held in Vancouver, Canada (1976) and in Istanbul, Turkey (1996). The broad of Habitat III and the future of our cities has been compiled into a manifesto, called the New Urban Agenda (NUA), which was unanimously adopted at Habitat III. The NUA is truly ambitious and slightly radical in its rebuke of the state of most cities today, reflecting the willingness of the Habitat III generation to tear down the current assumptions around what living in a city should be like.

The right to the city and the equality of mobility were recurring themes across the Habitat III summit and featured heavily in the surrounding areas of Quito as well. The needs of pedestrians and cyclists was well represented in the New Urban Agenda which can be found here: Read More
