Applying for funding through the Special Programme

The third round of applications to the Special Programme is now closed. The fourth round of applications will be launched in mid-2019.

Governments that are interested in submitting an application during the fourth round of applications are invited to prepare their project concept by consulting with ministries and stakeholders to identify national priorities, gaps and challenges to facilitate and enable the implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions, the Minamata Convention and the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management. Consultation with additional sources, such as the Secretariats of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions, the Minamata Convention, SAICAM and GEF, including consultation with the GEF focal point; LIRA guidance; and guidance on gender mainstreaming is also encouraged.

Information on eligibility and the types of projects that may be funded is available in the Project Application Guidelines, This document outlines the project application process for the third round of applications and may be updated in preparation for the fourth round of applications.

The project application guidelines is also available in Arabic, French and Spanish.

Applications must include:

  • The duly signed Project application form;
  • project budget form
  • An endorsement letter from the Special Programme official focal point
  • A beneficiary contribution letter
  • Supporting letters from project partners
  • Other supporting documents (for example, terms of reference for consultants)

Applications must be submitted in English only.
